How Laser Hair Removal Works

At City Hair Removal we have recently invested heavily in new lasers across all of our treatments. Due to rapid advances in laser technology we have trialled multiple lasers in order to find the laser that will provide the most effective and long term laser hair removal solution for all our clients.
Over the last 15 years treating clients (typically 50 clients per day), we have found that not everyone reacts the same way to lasers. For example, clients with PCO syndrome have very deep rooted hair on the facial area; this is typically difficult to remove, especially with hormonal imbalances. Step in the Lynton DUETTO MT laser, with this exclusive technology we are able to use 2 lasers at the same time in order to reach the correct depth and supply enough heat to kill the root of the hair. Many clients require alternative approaches to laser treatments this is why we have invested in multiple lasers, so that we can guarantee that our clients will finish their treatment with the best possible end result.
We now have 6 lasers for laser hair removal including: 2 Alexandrite lasers, 2 Nd:Yag lasers, a DUETTO MT laser and a Soprano XL laser. We use the gold-standard Elite Plus by Cynosure to maximise precision, effectiveness, and affordability for our clients that are suitable for Nd:Yag and Alexandrite lasers.
This depends on the laser Alexandrite and NDYAG hair removal lasers can be used with or without gel. The laser head is then chosen and placed on the skin and short pulses are released. However, to cool the skin both have a cryogen attachment, which discharges constant cold air at the same time as the laser to cool the skin (unlike the candela laser which only shoots are intermittently.
All skin types are suitable for laser hair removal as we have a variety of lasers. The best results are achieved with clients who have lighter skin and dark hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has a high concentration of the pigment melanin. Fair hair has less melanin and is more difficult to treat and may require more treatments or one of our stronger lasers. Grey/white hair has no melanin and is not suitable for laser treatment.
This depends on the person, the colour and density of the hair and the area. Other factors include the type of laser used and for women- the time of the month. The Soprano XL laser hair removal machine is a state of the art procedure, a Diode laser specially designed to remove unwanted hair faster, more comfortably, and with fewer visits than ever before. It gradually heats the hair follicle whilst the hand piece is passed over the same area constantly. It is said to feel like a hot stone massage. The NDYAG and Alexandrite lasers have the cool air which reduces the pain greatly, although some more sensitive areas can feel like an elastic band hitting against the skin. Some clients like to use Local anesthtic cream prior to treatment, which can really help for people with a low pain tollerance, this can only be used in conjunction with some lasers hair removal machines.
The skin is normally has Erythema (reddening of the skin) after treatment as well as swelling around the follicles, darker hair will asorb more heat and therefore may in some clients produced a stronger reaction. This can last from 24 hours-3 weeks depending on the person. The laserd hairs are shed after 1 – 3 weeks and fall naturally from the skin. During this period the hairs will seem to ‘grow’ as they are pushed out by the new skin. There may be a period of having no hair for a few weeks, depedning on the clients growth cycle, then the hair in the Anagen growth phase will begin to show again, typically finer and more slowly than before. After the 1st treatment, depending on skin and hair type the area can begin to look patchy.
The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles where the skin has been treated may be raised and bumpy, this usually subsides within a few hours. Very few people experience itching a few days later as the hair is pushed out. Stronger reactions are rare, but side effects can include blistering and hyper/hypopigmentation. This risk is greatly reduced when clients follow after care instructions and do not tan prior to and after treatments.
The City Hair Removal is a little gem in the heart of the city for laser hair removal. It was so handy to go there in my lunch hour and it is so reasonable priced for hair removal in London. The place is clean and the equipment is up to date. I was really impressed with the staff. The girl who did my hair removal was very friendly and informative so I felt very confident in the treatment. I have had four treatments and I don’t need anymore which is fantastic. Some friends of mine have had laser hair removal in London in other clinics but didn’t get the results or such knowledgeable staff treating them that I did so I’d definitely recommend the place.
Finished laser hair removal at Christmas after buying a full body package with amazing results. I started treatments in Australia which were really expensive. I now live in Manchester but work occasionally in London and I wanted to take advantage of the deal they had on so I started in 2011. I spaced treatments further apart than 6 weeks and had 8 on each area as well as a gap whilst I had a tan. My arms and bikini made a huge difference to my confidence, such a relief to be hair free!
I chose City Hair Removal because of proximity to work, the fact that they have a number of different laser/ipl machines so they would have one to suit my skin tone (I was particularly looking for the Nd:Yag), the availability of appointments outside of work hours, the friendliness of staff and online reviews. I think I had found 5 clinics close to work: one only did IPL, one only had the Alexandrite and they burnt my skin during the patch test, and another two who had the Nd:Yag and good reviews but I didn’t get round to visiting – I wanted to get started as soon as possible because I wanted to have hair free-legs for the summer! Now that I am a client I like how friendly, accommodating and thorough you are and how comfortable I feel having the treatment with you.
I received an hair removal treatment in the clinic, by senior practitioner Lucy. The treatment and the experience were far superior than any I have received during my attempt to remove my unwanted body hair. The treatment was of a high standard, having researched the treatment before I attended the clinic I was happy with the knowledge of the practitioner regarding the laser therapy. She tested my skin on two different lasers, both being suitable for my skin, enabling me to receive the most effective treatment. The results were fantastic, I was initially told I may not see results immediately; however despite this the results were noticeable after just one treatment on my underarm and upper lip. I am currently half way through my treatments and am having to push the dates of my treatment back due to the lack of hair, clearly demonstrating the effectiveness of this treatment.
I recommend City Hair removal to anyone looking to permanently get rid of unwanted hair, I has initially started getting laser hair removal at another clinic in London, I am of Asian origin so have darker skin and I had been getting IPL, this proved to be un-effective as the technician had to go on such a low setting as to not burn me, that it hardly did anything and the hair would grow back as normal within a few weeks. Since coming to City Hair removal, I have been informed by my laser technician that IPL is very risky on darker skin and that the risks of burning are very high. I am grateful for the honest information and great service from this clinic. I have had about 6 treatments of laser hair removal and most of the hair is gone permanently! I had not expected such drastic results and I’m over the moon!
